TALISMAN — Hamsa, Alabaster

$111.00

24K gold plated over brass, with an open filigree hamsa, a small evil eye, an eight-pointed star, and a long silk tassel under a tiered gold cap.

This is the Arabic form of the hamsa: a symmetrical five-fingered hand with a thumb on each side, cut in open filigree so light moves through it. Above it rests the evil eye, and just below the palm hangs an eight-pointed Islamic star, a motif found throughout the mosques and tilework of the Arab world.

The hamsa is one of the oldest protective symbols in the world, carried by women across the Middle East and North Africa for centuries and cherished in Muslim, Jewish, and Christian traditions alike. Some know it as the Hand of Fatima, others as the Hand of Miriam, others simply as the hand that watches over you. What it guards, and whose hand it is, is yours to decide.

Wear it close to your heart.

Details
Chain length: approx. 15" (38.1 cm), with a 2.5" (6.4 cm) extender for a longer drop, up to 17.5" (44.5 cm) total · Total pendant length, including tassel: approx. 7" (17.8 cm) · Hamsa: approx. 2.5" wide × 2.75" tall (6.4 × 7 cm) · 24K gold plating over brass · Silk thread tassel · Handmade, so slight variations are part of the making · Photographed in natural light; color may appear slightly different on your screen

An honest note on gold plating
This piece is gold plated, not solid gold, and I want you to know exactly what that means before you choose it.

With wear, the plating will fade. When it does, the brass underneath begins to oxidize. The bright gold shine will give way to a matte finish in deep amber, bronze, or brown. How fast this happens depends on your skin, your climate, and how often you wear it.

This is true of all gold-plated jewelry, whoever makes it. It's the natural life of plating, and it's what allows me to offer this at an accessible price rather than the cost of solid gold. Some women love the aged, antique look it takes on. If you'd rather have the shine back, it can always be re-plated, should you wear it to death. Which I hope you do.

Brass can occasionally leave a faint green tint on skin. It's harmless and washes right off.

Care
To help the plating last, avoid being a mermaid in it: no ocean, pool, or shower, and take it off for workouts. Keep the silk tassel dry; if it gets wet, let it air dry fully, then gently comb the threads straight with your fingers. Store in a cool, dry, sacred space. 🤍

Every piece arrives with a blessing.
